Are you a board game designer looking for the right publishers to pitch?

You've poured your heart and soul into creating an amazing game. But now comes the daunting part: navigating the vast and often opaque world of board game publishers. Hours spent searching, sifting through outdated information, and wondering if you're even pitching to the right people – it's enough to stall even the most passionate creator.

Making games is a lot of fun… but researching publishers? It's one of those tasks that gets put off until next week… or next month…

I get it. Researching is hard. It's not fun. It's definitely not why you got into game design.

Imagine if you could:

  • Instantly access detailed information on over 500+ board game publishers from around the world?
  • Know exactly what kind of games they're looking for, their submission guidelines, and even their convention presence?
  • Save a ton of time on researching and focus on making a great game?
  • Look this up anytime, anywhere?

Discover over 500 publishers with the Dossier, a board game publisher database.

The Dossier is a database of over 500 board game publishers that are either looking for submissions or have worked with outside designers in the past.

If they're just in business to publish their own games, they're not included – it would be a waste of time to pitch them, after all.

It's full of researched details and insight into publishers across the board game industry and around the world.

What does the Dossier include?

The Dossier isn't just another list of publishers. It's a comprehensive, constantly updated database built by a fellow game designer who's spent hundreds of hours researching publishers. Every listing is routinely checked at least twice a year.

Here's what the Dossier empowers you with:

  • Publisher deep dives: Get the inside scoop with essential details for each publisher, including:
    • Their name, website, and contact info
    • Direct links to their submission page (if they have one)
    • Direct links to their social media (Facebook, X, Youtube, Instagram, etc.)
    • Convention presence (do they attend Essen, GenCon, Origins, PAX Unplugged, and/or the UK Games Expo?)
    • What sort of games they want (kids games, casual / party games, family / gateway games, medium-weight games, heavy-weight games, and/or RPG's?)
    • Other notes and insights (anything else to help you identify whether it's a fit)
  • Sort, search, and filter data: Save time by sorting, searching, and filtering publishers by the criteria that matter most to you. Drill down to find the exact publishers you're looking for.
  • A fast-loading, responsive webapp that works anywhere including on your phone, at a convention, at home, and anywhere in between.

About Me

I'm Chris Backe (rhymes with ‘hockey') – you might know me from Entro Games (where I make games), Virtual Playtesting (where I help to run one of the biggest online playtesting groups), No Box Games, or any number of Facebook groups that talk about making board games. If we haven't met yet, I've been making tabletop games since 2016. I've pitched publishers at Essen, the UK Games Expo, and online. See my BGG profile for my published games

When not designing games, editing rulebooks, updating research, or playtesting, I might be out for a run or at the gym. I'm originally from the Chicago area (go Cubs!) and currently live in Birmingham, England.

Now, to be clear:

You'll still have to do the pitching yourself. After sorting, searching, and filtering your way through hundreds of hours of research, it's on you to do something with that info.

  • Research your shortlisted publishers individually – you know your game better than anyone. Visualize it on the shelf alongside a publisher's game.
  • Come correct – have a sell sheet and video ready to rock.
  • Pitch correctly – if they've asked you to use their contact form or a specific process, use it.
